Mayors US-bound for educational exposure

At least 6 mayors in the province of Cotabato are bound for the United States of America for an educational exposure.

This was revealed today by Aleosan Mayor Loreto B. Cabaya, the concurrent President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cotabato Chapter after the Mayors League meeting at the Capitol, Amas, Kidapawan City.

Mayor Cabaya added that sometime in November this year, they will be visiting the Yosemite National Park in California, USA saying that the trip will provide them relevant learnings on the development and preservation of one of the World’s Heritage Sites in relation to our own efforts in the preservation and protection of Mt. Apo National Park.

He also said that the protection and development of Mt. Apo National Park is not only limited nor confined with the KMM (Kidapawan City, Magpet and Makilala) mayors who composed the first batch of chief executives who visited the said park in 2007.

“We need to organize our local government units so that through our network we will be able to contribute to the environmental rehabilitation, protection and development program of the provincial government.  I hope, Vice Governor Gregorio Ipong can join our trip for the necessary legislative action resulting from the said educational exposure,” Cabaya explained.

The Mt. Apo Foundation, Incorporated or MAFI, has served as the facilitator of this foreign travel in its capacity as the partner agency of the LGUs for environmental concerns.

Atty. Ermelo Libre, Executive Director of the MAFI is hopeful that the same enthusiasm will result from these mayors who will be visiting the Yosemite National Park with those of the first batch.

“I have personally witnessed the changes in the rehabilitation, protection and development of the Mt. Apo National Park implemented by the KMM mayors in their respective LGU.”

Yosemite National Park is located at the mountain ranges of Sierra Nevada in California.  It is the third national park declared by the congress of America on October 1, 1890 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. //vdb.idcd-pgo
